Emshih Developments Inc. was the first development company to recognize the City of Burlington’s need for convenient retail services and vibrant commercial centres to complement the growth in the City’s population, and began developing along key commercial corridors throughout the city.

In 1987, Emshih Developments Inc. developed the Fairview Medical Arts Centre, an office condominium complex equipped with a full range of medical facilities located at 2200 Fairview St.

Fairview Street has become know in Burlington as the City’s primary shopping node, and identifying this, Emshih Developments Inc. first established the Walkers Plaza at 3537 Fairview Street in 1987. This plaza was awarded the Mayor’s Business Recognition Award for the commitment to beautify the industrial, commercial and institutional areas of the community, by contributing to the vitality and professional image Burlington portrays as a City. The Walkers Plaza has been host to many recognized tenants such as Jack Astors, Factory Carpet, Pizza Pizza, and Liquidation World.

In 1989, Emshih Developments Inc. followed the Walkers Plaza with the eye catching Landmark Shopping Centre at 3480 - 3520 Fairview Street. Tenants have included B.B. Bargoons, CAA South Central, Penningtons, Jones New York, as well as a variety of award winning restaurants.

Emshih Developments Inc. also built the Belamy’s Restaurant (presently Shoeless Joe’s) at 4045 Harvester Road, in 1989, along another busy business corridor in Burlington.

Emshih Developments Inc. was the driving force behind the introduction of “Big Box” retailing in Burlington, when the Brantview Plaza at 1881 Fairview Street was built in 1993. The Brantview Plaza was the first large box retail centre in Burlington; anchored by the first Michaels Arts & Crafts store, and the fourth Staples / Business Depot store in Canada.

In 1995, Emshih Developments Inc. set out to develop the largest Power Centre in the Halton Region. After rezoning from an apple orchard to a completed retail, Emshih Developments Inc. finished the Burlington Retail Power Centre at 1250 Brant Street in 1997. This Regional Shopping Centre is located on the convergence 3 major highways, Highway 403, the QEW, and the 407 ETR. Capitalizing on Burlington's prime location at the intersections of several major throughways.

The 300,000 square foot Burlington Retail Power Centre is anchored by some of the largest, most successful retailers in Canada, the centre boasts such tenants as Famous Players Cinemas, Sobey’s Food Market, Indigo Books & Music (1st Indigo store in Canada), Office Depot, and many more.

Not long after the completion of the Burlington Retail Power Centre, Emshih Developments Inc. completed the second phase at 1220 Brant Street. Phase II added an even larger list of flourishing tenants such as Burger King, Tim Hortons, La-Z-Boy, and EQ3.

Emshih also has rezoned 18 acres of Industrial land (on the Northeast corner of Brant Street and North Service Road, Costco – Mobilia lands in Burlington) to expand Burlington Retail Power Centre even further.

In 2000, Emshih Developments Inc. acquired the Avestel Credit Union building and lands at 895-903 Brant Street, the Gateway to Downtown at the corner of Brant St. and Fairview. After expanding the building and redeveloping the surrounding lands, Emshih Developments Inc. decided to make this prime location their home. Tenants at the Emshih Plaza include, Second Cup, Flowers by the Dozen, First Ontario, and Randstad.

Emshih Developments Inc., has also donated space, and assisted in establishing, Danielle’s Place, a non-profit eating disorder support and resource centre.

Appleby Common

Located in the fast growing Northeast area of Burlington in the Tansley neighbourhood, Emshih Developments Inc. has completed the 90,000 square feet Appleby Common Plaza, in 2005. This Plaza enhances the densely populated community with a new combination of Professional, Educational, and Commercial businesses that compliments the adjacent planned Brantwell Village residential area. The Plaza features such unique tenants as:

Emshih Developments Inc.’s latest project is the Burloak Common, located at Burloak Dr. and Prince William Dr., at the Southeast end of Burlington. This commercial development will have an outstanding business combination that will properly service a growing residential neighbourhood to both the Southeast end of Oakville and Southwest end of Burlington, and a dense office development to the North. Currently under construction, Phase I of the Burloak Common is scheduled for opening in spring of 2006.
